Filler Cannula vs Introducer Needle: What to Specify

A filler cannula and an introducer needle are separate items in a product record. When reviewing a cannula offer, identify which components are supplied and how each is specified.

Read the component names carefully

Manufacturers may describe a blunt-tip filler cannula and list a separate introducer needle in the box contents. The TSK STERiGLIDE manufacturer page provides one example of a listing that identifies both.

That example applies to its own product. It does not establish the contents of a different brand or a particular NovaClin Labs offer.

Give each item its own specification

For the cannula, record the manufacturer reference, gauge, length and connection information. For a separately required introducer, record its own reference and dimensions.

Ask the practitioner to identify the components required for the intended use, based on their applicable instructions and professional assessment. A shared gauge designation is not a complete compatibility assessment.

Confirm how quantities are stated

A quotation might identify cannulas and needles as separate component counts within a pack. Check both numbers and the unit used for pricing and ordering. Keep the contents statement with the product reference.

This is especially useful for repeat purchases, when a team may remember the main cannula but overlook whether another component was included previously.

Reconcile the delivery

Compare the received labels and supplied contents with the confirmed quotation. Record packaging, batch and expiry information under the clinic's receiving process. Resolve component or quantity discrepancies before releasing the affected items for use.

This article is a purchasing guide. It does not prescribe an entry technique, anatomical use or a cannula-and-needle size combination.

Use the NovaClin Labs cannula information page or enquire about current component specifications and availability.
